With expanded capacity for medical oncology treatments, infusion therapy and other services, more patients will receive cancer care closer to home.

The Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) in Issaquah has completed renovation work to double the footprint of their current space to address the need for increased access to cancer care and infusion therapy services.

The newly renovated space at SCI expands capacity and focuses on patient comfort and convenience by increasing the number of treatment rooms and infusion suites and doubling the size of the waiting room to ensure better patient flow. The new space also features dedicated space for supportive care services.

As part of the expansion, the Issaquah Ambulatory Infusion Center (AIC) and the nursing care team relocated from the third floor of the hospital to SCI’s new, state-of-the-art infusion unit which features a dedicated check-in space in the lobby for infusion patients. The AIC began seeing patients in the new space on March 27.

“Providing excellent care starts with improving access. With expanded capacity for medical oncology treatments, infusion therapy and other services, more patients will receive cancer care closer to home,” says Amy Christian, senior manager of oncology at SCI Issaquah.

Other highlights of the new SCI space include:

  • 4 new exam rooms, bringing the total number of rooms to 13
  • 12 new oncology treatment rooms, bringing the number of treatment rooms to 20
  • 8 new ambulatory infusion chairs, bringing the total number of ambulatory and oncology infusion suites to 28
  • A second office for social workers
  • A new blood draw room
  • Dedicated lobby space for SCI and infusion patients to check-in
  • Dedicated space for support care services such as music and art therapy, on-site nutrition services and hereditary counseling
  • Expanded radiation oncology waiting room
  • State-of-the-art pharmacy services

“We’re excited for the added space which will help ensure patients on the Eastside and nearby communities have continued convenient access to the highest quality cancer care available,” adds Christian.
