From the pitch to parenthood
Though celebrated for his accomplishments on the field, Jesús’s eyes light up most when he talks about becoming a dad. “I’ve always wanted a girl first,” he shared. “Now having a baby girl is going to be all that plus more. She’ll look to me to know how to love and how to be treated.”
That sentiment is echoed by Calyn, who smiled as she recalled his excitement: “He’s so ready to love a little human. [I knew] he was going to be a great dad.”
The couple’s path to delivery wasn’t without obstacles. Moving during the final weeks of pregnancy made finding care challenging. “A lot of doctors said they wouldn’t take care of us just because of how far along we were,” Calyn explained. “But Providence Swedish came through. They welcomed us with open arms.”
“Providence Swedish gave us the best experience we could imagine for welcoming our baby girl into the world.”
From ultrasounds where they saw their daughter’s tiny fingers and even a glimpse of her hair, to a labor that lasted an exhausting 63 hours, Jesús and Calyn describe their care team at Providence Swedish Issaquah campus as calm, attentive, and supportive.
“Our experience at Providence Swedish was seriously the best we could have asked for,” Calyn said. “Great doctors, great nurses. It was very, very chill. We had music playing, and when the moment came, everyone made sure we felt safe and cared for.”
Jesús recalls stepping in as Solvii arrived. “When the baby’s in her stomach, there’s only so much you can do,” he said. “But once she was out, I felt like it was my moment. Time for me to step in and help make sure she grows and has a healthy life.”
Now the couple is adjusting to the daily joys and challenges of new parenthood, late-night feedings, diaper changes, and soaking up every new milestone. All while living the life that comes with having a pro athlete in the family.
Saving a seat for daddy’s biggest little fan
Jesús is already dreaming of bringing Solvii to Lumen Field. “One of the things I’m excited about is having her at games, for her to remember,” he said. “It gives me extra motivation on the field knowing she’s there, watching.”
For Jesús and Calyn, Providence Swedish provided more than a hospital stay. It offered peace of mind, comfort, and a foundation for this new chapter in their lives.
“We’re so grateful,” Calyn said. “Providence Swedish gave us the best experience we could imagine for welcoming our baby girl into the world.”
