  • Our intensive outpatient program is also available at both campuses. The program is a step-down from our partial hospitalization program and inpatient care.
  • We offer a host of other behavioral health services, including wholistic outpatient care coordianted with your primary care clincian, addiction and recovery services, perinatal mental health services, and more.

It’s no secret that it can be difficult to access behavioral health care. Late last year, NPR reported that roughly two-thirds of Americans with a diagnosed mental health condition were unable to access treatment in 2021, though they had health insurance. And only a third of insured people who visited an emergency department or hospital during a mental health crisis, received follow-up care within a month of being discharged. In 2021 a report released by the Kaiser Family Foundation showed Washington State among the states with the highest levels of unmet mental health care needs. A program at Providence Swedish’s Ballard and Edmonds campuses aims to help close some of these gaps.

Last year, Providence Swedish introduced a partial hospitalization program at its Ballard campus, offering 5-day a week intensive outpatient treatment to patients with acute psychiatric needs. Also available is an intensive outpatient program, which offers patients the same level of care over three days per week, offering patients more flexibility. Kelsey Smith, MBA, LICSW, senior director of care management and behavioral health at Providence Swedish visited with KING 5's New Day Northwest recently to discuss both programs and how Providence Swedish is working to improve mental health care access for every community we serve.
