The awards highlight Providence Swedish's consistency in following the American Heart Association's guidelines for care, treatment and improved outcomes in stroke and diabetes.

Providence Swedish has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) for providing high-quality stroke and type 2 diabetes care. Four hospitals received the AHA's Get With The Guidelines achievement awards for their commitment to following current, research-based guidelines in treating heart disease and stroke. This dedication leads to more lives saved, shorter recovery times, and fewer hospital readmissions.

In the U.S., someone has a stroke or heart attack every 40 seconds, making heart disease and stroke the first and fifth leading causes of death, respectively. Research shows that patients recover better when healthcare professionals consistently follow established treatment guidelines.

Get With The Guidelines is an in-hospital program developed by the AHA to improve stroke care through adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines. This program's success is supported by data and published studies demonstrating improved patient outcomes. It leverages the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to ensure hospitals provide care aligned with the latest evidence-based guidelines. Providence Swedish qualified for the award by showing a commitment to enhancing quality care through this program.

This year, Providence Swedish received the following achievement awards:

  • Swedish First Hill and Issaquah campuses each earned the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
  • Swedish Edmonds received the Stroke Gold Plus with Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
