Swedish Babies in 2013

January 13, 2014 Jane Uhlir, MD

Odds are that if you live in or around Seattle, either you or your children were born at a Swedish hospital. And after last year, those odds are even greater after our nurses and doctors delivered a record 9,014 babies in 2013.

Last year included a record number of births at Swedish Issaquah (1,149) and Swedish Ballard (1,022).

We attribute last year’s growth to our excellent reputation in the community as well as our outstanding ability to provide our patients with a safe, convenient and comfortable birthing experience. Last year we expanded our range of offerings for families when we opened our new Lytle Center for Pregnancy & Newborns and our Level II nursery at Swedish Issaquah.

Now for some fun facts:

  • August saw 857 deliveries, our most during the year. February was our slowest month at 622.

  • At 9,014 deliveries, we averaged one baby every 58 minutes.

  • Issaquah, which is one of the fastest growing cities in the state, is fast becoming a popular location for Eastside residents to have their babies. When the hospital opened in 2011, it averaged 23.5 births a month, but last year the hospital averaged nearly 96 births!

We share the joy that our new families feel and thank our doctors, nurses and other caregivers for their dedicated support in serving our newest patients. We look forward to giving these little ones a lifetime of health and wellbeing.
