Watch video: inviting diverse stories into medicine

March 3, 2023 Swedish Communications

Nwando Anyaoku, M.D., MPH, MBA, chief health equity officer at Providence Swedish, recently gave an incredible TEDx talk about the importance of health equity and the roles diversity of background, culture and lived experience play in a person's care.

The inspiration for her talk, which was hosted at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, is an encounter she had with a patient who was devastated when Dr. Anyaoku was leaving her New Jersey medical practice. The patient was afraid no one would understand her. In her talk, Dr. Anyaoku offers a powerful example of the importance of pursuing health equity and the deep connections between care teams and their patients.
