Providence Swedish Cancer Institute Social Worker Danielle McLaughlin received this year's Nils Johanson Award for Compassion. Congratulations Danielle, from the entire Providence Swedish Community.
Every year, Providence Swedish recognizes the invaluable work of our caregivers with the Nils Johanson Inspirational Awards. The awards are named for Swedish's founder, Nils Johanson, and are given to caregivers who exemplify our core values of integrity, dignity, excellence, justice, compassion and safety. Caregivers are nominated by their peers and supervisors.
Meet Danielle McLaughlin, one of our social workers who commits herself to walking patients through some of life's toughest moments. McLaughlin is so admired by her colleagues that she received multiple, enthusiastic nominations. McLaughlin's spirit and warmth bring connection not just to patients, but also to her team.
"She elevates the care that we are able to provide," says Jennifer Nordstrom-Lozano, manager of social work services at the Providence Swedish Cancer Institute. "Some days are particularly hard and she is able to bring the joy in life."
"Working in cancer care, we see folks on some of their worst days," says McLaughlin. "And to be able to be present for them is such an honor."
