Penelope (Penny) Nyder, a volunteer in the Cancer Education Center at First Hill has been with us since March 2008. As an experienced volunteer, Penny has several responsibilities. She inputs tracking data, makes class reminder calls, greets and assists patients and caregivers in the education center, and most notably, she visits the Treatment Center on a weekly basis.
The Swedish Cancer Institute offers several supportive care services to enhance and personalize the care of our patients. SCI wants to meet the needs of our patients at every step of the way.

Penny is also on the Auxiliary Board and serves as the recording secretary. The Auxiliary Board has supported several SCI services such as free breast surgical camisoles for underinsured or uninsured breast cancer patients,* music therapy and sponsoring cancer events in the community.
Penny’s favorite part of volunteering with the Cancer Education Center is being able to interact with patients and families. If you’d like to learn more about the supportive care services we offer, visit the Cancer Education Center at your campus or talk to Penny during her next rounds through the First Hill Medical Treatment Center.
Penny is a valuable member of the SCI community and we are happy to be able to work with her.
