On July 18, youth from the Seattle Teen Music Ensemble at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute learned about the impact of noise exposure on hearing by Swedish's team of audiologists. The screenings evaluated the teen's current hearing status and specialists offered follow-up as needed.

“Hearing screenings allow us to quickly rule out hearing loss, but they do more than that. They remind us that we live in a noisy world and help to highlight the importance of hearing protection. We started a conversation with children and adults about the kinds of everyday sounds that can be harmful, and easy ways we can protect our ears,” comments Mary Henry, an audiologist at Swedish.

The program participants were treated to surprise guests, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and newly appointed Police Chief, Carmen Best, who got their own surprise, a sneak peek at the 2018 Teen Summer Musical Cinderella: A Love Story with the Sound of Motown.
