As part of our promise to those we serve, we make strategic annual investments in areas of community health where there is significant unmet need. In 2024, Providence Swedish invested $497 million in communities across the Puget Sound. Today we released our 2024 Annual Report to Our Communities featuring many of the programs and initiatives we are proud to invest in and support. Additionally, Providence Swedish has released a Community Health Improvement Plan, which provides more details behind the work of our annual report.

Advocating for vulnerable populations and needed changes in health care are at the core of our Mission,” said Elizabeth Wako, M.D., president and CEO, Swedish Health Services, “Despite challenging years — and 2024 was not an exception — we have remained steadfast in our pledge to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve across the Puget Sound.

Support for our community health partners

Providence Swedish supports the vital work of our community partners including Blake House, where our Providence Swedish nurse navigator program provides whole-person care for formerly unhoused seniors and veterans; Cascade Bicycle Club, where our contribution helped their Pedaling Relief Project support local food banks and residents by collecting from retailers food that would otherwise go to waste; and our Ballard campus’s Substance-Using Pregnant People program, a transformative model of care that provides multi-disciplinary, inpatient care, including medical withdrawal management and stabilization, psychosocial treatment, obstetric evaluation and care, 24-hour nursing care and parenting and childbirth education.

Care by the numbers

In 2024, Providence Swedish supported:

  • $324.6 million in unpaid costs of Medicaid and other means-tested government programs
  • $83 million in free or discounted care for patients in need
  • $51.3 million in subsidies for health professions, education and research
  • $13.7 million for community health improvement and strategic partnerships.

Also in 2024, the Providence family of organizations provided nearly $1.9 billion in uncompensated care and other community services.

"Providence has always believed in the power of collaboration, recognizing that strong partnerships are essential to our vision of health for a better world," said Erik Wexler, Providence president and CEO. "Every year, our family of organizations identifies unmet community needs and responds with strategic contributions and partnerships. Thank you to all our caregivers and community partners for helping us make a difference in the lives of those we serve."
