- According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, emergency departments in the U.S. average more than 425,000 visits every day.
- We know it's never the plan, but if you do wind up in an emergency room, having a few essentials can make your visit easier.
- Watch the short video for tips from a Providence Swedish emergency medicine physician.
No one plans a trip to the emergency room. But if you have a moment to prepare, bringing a few essentials can help your care team support you. Alex Rackoff, M.D., an emergency medicine physician at Providence Swedish Redmond, recommends having these three items with you.
1. Hearing aids
If you use hearing aids, bring them with you. Clear communication helps your care team understand you and makes it easier for you to hear important questions and instructions.
2. Medication list
Bring an up-to-date list of your medications, including when you last took each one. This information helps your care team make safer, more informed decisions.
3. Phone and charger
An emergency room visit may take longer than expected. A charged phone can help you stay in touch with family or caregivers and access information you may need. A little preparation can help your care team take better care of you.
Keeping these three essentials ready can make an unexpected emergency room visit a little easier for you and your care team. Watch the video to learn more.
