Help Navigating Finances when Dealing with Cancer

November 6, 2019 Cameron Hazzard, Health Education Intern

A cancer diagnosis can come as a shock to patients and their loved ones. Much of the process can be hard to understand, and patients may need to take time to familiarize themselves with common treatments and terms. One of the most difficult things to manage is the financial side of treatment, which can present a great deal of stress to both the patient and their families. Regardless of whether or not a patient has insurance or their level of insurance, Swedish believes that everyone deserves the right to life-saving cancer treatment.

The Cancer Education Center team has put together a Cancer and Finances booklet, available within the Cancer Education Center as well as by request.  It is a resource which was created to prepare patients for any financial complications that come with treatment. The booklet covers different finance-related topics, and will help answer questions about insurance coverage and other frequently asked questions. We hope that using this booklet will help increase patient’s comfort level.

For more information, please feel free to stop by the Cancer Education Center to talk with one of our certified Health Education Specialists, or give us a call at (206) 386-3200. You can also request a PDF copy of the Cancer and Finances booklet by emailing SCI.Education@swedish.org.
