Start easy and hold long.

We were meant to be hunters and gatherers, now we wear scrubs and suits. However, as we have adapted to our new environment, we can do little things to keep our bodies satisfied; hydrate, eat whole foods, move and stretch.

Stretching is a simple way to keep your body in balance and relieve stress. It can reinvigorate you when you are tired or let your body know that rest is on the horizon. There are many ways to infuse stretching into your day. You can give yourself 10 minutes in the morning to wake up and 10 minutes in the evening to wind down, but to many, adding 20 minutes a day is a big adjustment. Stretching doesn’t just make us feel better, it prevents injuries.

So, here is something you can do today. Focus on one body part that holds stress due to your daily routine. It could be wrist rotations if you lift or type a lot could be neck rolls if you tend to hold tension there. Need more suggestions? Your body has memory and craves motion. Little steps each day contribute to your overall well being. You don’t have to be a Yogi to treat your body with the respect it deserves.
