Swedish is excited to welcome Group Health maternity patients starting Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 for one of the most monumental moments of their lives – the birth of their child.

Group Health will close its Family Beginnings Unit located at the Capitol Hill campus at midnight on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. Group Health’s family practice physicians, obstetricians, and midwives will begin providing care at Swedish First Hill on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

“We have been planning this transition for several months, and are excited about the partnership with Swedish and what it means for our patients,” said Mark Cook, MD, chief of staff for Group Health’s Central Hospital. “Swedish is a world-class facility for childbirth. Our midwives and physicians have been welcomed with open arms, and I’m confident Group Health maternity patients will continue to receive the best care possible.”

In 2014, Swedish delivered more than 9,000 babies. Swedish expanded its pregnancy and women’s health services at the First Hill campus in 2013 with the opening of the Lytle Center for Pregnancy & Newborns. To learn more about childbirth services at Swedish, click here.

The transition of maternity patients to Swedish is the first step in the strategic collaboration between Swedish and Group Health. Group Health will begin sending all Seattle-area adult HMO inpatients to Swedish First Hill and Cherry Hill campuses in February 2016.

If you are a Group Health maternity patient and have questions regarding your childbirth, please ask your provider at your next appointment or call Group Health Obstetrics and Midwifery at 206-326-3500.
