The Storm’s investments in Providence Swedish have helped increase access to elevated, multi-disciplinary care and strengthen our commitment to women’s health across the region.
The Swedish Foundation recently hosted a special ceremony at the True Family Women’s Cancer Center to recognize the generosity of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and the organization's lasting impact on patients and families across our region.
The event celebrated more than 10 years of partnership between Providence Swedish and the Storm, a relationship rooted in shared values, community investment and a deep commitment to advancing women’s health.
Since opening in 2012, the True Family Women’s Cancer Center at Providence Swedish First Hill has served as a comprehensive treatment hub where women receive personalized, coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care. In addition to disease-specific education, patients have access to holistic support services designed to care for the whole person.
Over the years, the Seattle Storm has been one of the center’s most generous philanthropic partners, contributing more than $270,000 in support of women’s cancer care. The team’s leadership in philanthropy has extended beyond the cancer center. The Storm’s investments in both the Providence Swedish Cancer Institute and Providence Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute have helped increase access to elevated, multi-disciplinary care and strengthen our commitment to women’s health across the region.
During the acknowledgment ceremony, Providence Swedish Cancer Institute Regional Executive Medical Director Ashwani Rajput, M.D., (in center in photo above) and Executive Medical Director of Rehabilitation and Performance Medicine Steven Stanos, D.O., (at right in photo above) welcomed Storm CEO Alisha Valavanis (at left in photo above) who shared remarks reflecting on the partnership between Providence Swedish and the Storm and the shared commitment to uplifting women both on and off the court.
The celebration culminated in the installation of a permanent plaque in the center, now displayed on the Wall of Hope, commemorating the Storm’s investment in the lives of patients and the broader community.
We are grateful to the Seattle Storm for leading the way in our community and for continuing to invest in the health and well-being of patients across the Puget Sound region.
