Summer 2014 Cancer Community Walks & Runs

Each year, the Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) partners with local and national organizations in an effort to help spread awareness of cancer, associated treatments, and resources available in our communities.

Summer 2014 is no different. We’ve signed on to take part in more events than ever before—and we want you to join us! As an active patient, survivor, family member, friend or advocate, your voice and participation matter.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life

These overnight community fundraising walks help raise money to fund cancer research, education, and support services like Hope Lodge®, Road to Recovery®, Look Good, Feel Better®, and Reach to Recovery®, all American Cancer Society-run programs. The Swedish Cancer Institute patients gain access to these programs throughout the Swedish network. There are several Relay for Life events going on in the Puget Sound. The Swedish Cancer Institute is taking part in:

  • Issaquah - Saturday, May 31st at 12 p.m.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
Sunday, June 1 at 7 a.m.
The 21st Susan G. Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure® will help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Money raised helps fund cancer screenings, education, and treatment support in the Puget Sound area.

American Lung Association LUNG FORCE Walk
Saturday, June 7 at 8 a.m.
Team “Swedish for Lung Cancer” will be partnering with the American Lung Association to participate in the first ever LUNG FORCE Walk in South Lake Union, Downtown Seattle. Together, we will raise our voices against lung cancer and for lung health, for everyone!

SummeRun & Walk for Ovarian Cancer
Sunday, July, 27 at 6:30 a.m.
Presented by Swedish, the SummeRun celebrates its 20th year anniversary in the First Hill area. SummeRun is dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research.

Alki Beach 5K Walk and Run
Sunday, August 24 at 9 a.m.
Northwest Hope and Healing presents the 2014 Alki Beach 5K Walk and Run in honor of patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones lost to breast cancer. Proceeds raised through this event help provide women assistance with basic needs such as groceries, utility bills, childcare, or emergency rent. The 5K walk and run takes place along the waterfront and is full of beautiful sights and sounds.

Seattle Brain Cancer Walk
Saturday, September 20 at 7:30 a.m.
The Seattle Brain Cancer Walk, celebrating its 7th year, helps to raise funds to support brain cancer research, clinical trials, and comprehensive brain cancer care for patients in the Pacific Northwest. Swedish Cancer Institute is proud to partner with patients and caregivers to bring momentum to brain cancer awareness.
